River Rock Academy Newville Campus services students from Cumberland, Dauphin, Franklin and Perry County School Districts. Students in grades 6 through 12 are eligible for services.
Educational Services
River Rock Academy provides extensive alternative educational services to regular and special education students.
Differentiating River Rock Academy from other providers is a state-of-the-art computer lab enabling students to learn crucial computer skills while completing individualized curriculum tailored to the specific needs of the student.
PSSA Preparatory Services
River Rock Academy students will be engaged in a web-based program designed to enhance their academic ability and scores on the PSSA.
Counseling Services
River Rock Academy students will receive academic and behavioral counseling on a regular basis. The clinical staff is supervised by a clinician master's level supervisor. Intensive psychological counseling will not be provided and recommendations for professional services will be reviewed with the student, family and school district.
SMART goals will be implemented in conjunction with group and individual counseling to facilitate transition plans. Transition plans will reintegrate students into the public school setting and community. School-to-work programs utilizing community experiences are available to eligible students.
Community Partnership
All River Rock Academy students will have the opportunity to work within the community. The intent of this program is to have students serve the community in a positive way as well as complete community service hours and restitution assigned by the court. This program is contingent upon parent and referral agency consent.
River Rock Staff will provide supervision and transportation for youth during this part of the program as necessary.
Additional Services
- Individualized transition plans for successful reintegration into the public school setting and the community.
- Celebration and recognition of successful transitions.
- Bi-annual parent advisory board experience to create a forum for parents to provide input into services offered.
- Community advisory board consisting of community and business leaders to promote and facilitate the community-based component of the program.
