Educational Services

River Rock Academy provides extensive alternative educational services to regular and special education students. Students learn crucial computer skills while completing individualized curriculum tailored to the specific needs of the student.

Education

All River Rock Academy campuses integrate technology into their classrooms. On-line learning programs provide opportunities for credit recovery, distance learning options or preparation for the PSSA or GED exams. The major emphasis of the program is to prepare students academically and socially for a return to public school.

Each student will have individualized goal plans developed in conjunction with group and individual counseling to develop a comprehensive treatment plan. Transition planning will be used to reintegrate youth back into the public school and community setting. Co-op programming that utilizes community work experiences will be available to eligible students.

Recreation

Each student will have the opportunity to participate in recreational activities during school hours. The goals of the recreation program are to promote health and physical fitness; to teach cooperation, teamwork and sportsmanship; to develop appropriate leisure time interests and to learn to access social and recreational opportunities in the community.

PSSA Preparatory Service

River Rock Academy students will be engaged in a web-based program designed to enhance their academic ability and scores on the PSSA.

Individual Counseling Services

Individual counseling focuses on service plan goals as well as the student’s behavior and attitude within the program. A primary counselor is assigned to each student in the program.

River Rock Academy students will receive academic and behavioral counseling on a regular basis. Staff members informally counsel students daily and the clinical staff is supervised by a clinician master’s level supervisor. Intensive psychological counseling will not be provided and recommendations for professional services will be reviewed with the student, family and school district.

SMART goals will be implemented in conjunction with group and individual counseling to facilitate transition plans. Transition plans will reintegrate students into the public school setting and community. School-to-work programs utilizing community experiences are available to eligible students.

Group Counseling Services

Group counseling may have several formats. Primary group counseling occurs during Social Skills classes in which every student is enrolled. Whenever problems surface within the student group, smaller group counseling may be used for problem identification and resolution. Psycho-educational groups will be conducted on a regular basis.

Community Partnership

River Rock Academy students will have the opportunity to work within the community. The intent of this program is to have students serve the community in a positive way as well as complete community service hours as needed. River Rock Academy staff will provide supervision and transportation for youth during the community partnership program.

Goal Planning

Comprehensive Treatment Plans or SMART goals will be developed and completed during the first 30 days for each youth. The Treatment Plan includes the goals, activities and milestones which the youth must accomplish in order to successfully complete the program.

Family Involvement

Families are strongly encouraged to participate at River Rock Academy. It is an expectation that they attend all treatment meetings. River Rock realizes that family involvement is critical to the success of the youth and the program and does everything in its power to include families in the process.
